In this guest contribution in taz, Ahmad Mansour addresses the obstacles to an open debate about Islam and to a constructive exchange with liberal Muslims living in Germany. He identifies two main parties which are thwarting the progress, namely the Muslim associations on the one hand and the political left on the other. While the left’s special treatment of Muslims and people with a migrant background might aim to set an example against racism and stereotypes, protecting the majority of German Muslims from the minority of Muslim critics is not exactly helpful, Mansour explains.
